"In het begin van 1982 begon Mercedes-Benz met het testen van elektrische aandrijflijnen in personenwagens. Dit 123 T-model kwam grotendeels overeen met de productieversie, maar de laadruimte was verkleind om zo de nikkel-ijzer batterij te kunnen plaatsen. Het was een zware uitdaging voor de ingenieurs, door de 600kg extra gewicht van de batterijen maar ook door de beperkte actieradius van ongeveer 100 km."





Met de lithium cellen van tegenwoordig en de nieuwe types electromotoren moet, na het verwijderen van benzinetank en verbrandingsmotor, de W123 een goede kandidaat zijn voor een "moderne" elektrische aandrijflijn. Nu alleen nog even sparen voor genoeg cellen..
