O ja, bv in de W114 had bv. de 250 van na 1973 een 2,8 liter motor (M130) met een grotere inhoud dan de 280!
Zo zat dat. Ik heb geloof ik wel eens iets gelezen over waarom voor deze cylinder inhoud was gekozen. Oorspronkelijk was er ook een groetere M110 motor gepland van ik geloof 3,3 liter, ik weet zo even niet meer waarom dat niet is doorgegaan. (helaas...)
Maar ok, officieel zou het dus inderdaad een 270E moeten zijn, maar het blijkt wel dat Mercedes hier nogal vrij in was.
De naam 280 had toch al een bepaalde faam.
Meer nog de 300 die op de roem van de 300SL leunde en wat jarenlang het topmodel is gebleven (300SE W112, 300SEL W109), vandaar dat de 240D 3.0 in 1973 geen 300D mocht heten.

er zijn wel meer afwijkingen hoor. Ook de 240D en de 300D hebben minder cylinder inhoud gekregen bij de motor aanpassing naar 72 respectievelijk 88 PK. Dit had vaak ook te maken met de belastingcategorieen in sommige landen.
De 190D heeft bv ook gewoon een 2 liter motor...
