I have a W123 Coupe 2.8 from 1985. It is fitted with ABS. I am experiancing an intermittent fault when starting the car, in which the ABS light goes off and then comes on again after a few seconds. If I re-start the car, it normally goes off and stays off. The system is working fine. Sometimes when the car is left idleing, the light also comes on for no apparent reason. Again, by restarting, it goes off and generally stays off.

I have replaced the relay that sits behind the glove box, and this cures the problem for a while and then the problem returns. Everything has been checked, sensors cleaned but the fault continues. Many MB technicians has had many different resolves but nothing has worked. Only by switching off and then on again does the system re-activate. What I wish to do is fit a reset switch (apart from the starter) so I can simply switch the system off and then on again. (some cars are fitted with this switch as standard).

Does anyone have a wiring diagram of the ABS system?. From that, I can sort the problem.

ik heb hier geen wiring diagram, maar wel een link naar de database van het duitse forum waar wat info staat. Ik hoop dat je ook de duitse taal machtig bent.

Mijn ervaring met ABS is dat het erg gevoelig is voor de boordspanning. Een defect in de spanningsregelaar van de dynamo merkte ik op omdat het ABS lampje bleef branden bij lage toerentallen. Aan mijn laadstroomcontrolelampje was nog niets te zien. Bij jou lijkt het ook een spanningsprobleem. Kan door overgangsweerstand komen. Wellicht dat schoonmaken van alle stekkers van het systeem (vergeet ook de zekeringen niet) al helpt.

Check with a ohm-meter the front sensors. around 1K-ohm each. The sensor in the rear has a higher value. But not more than 100K !!
